I’m Jacob Lucas, a resident of Bonney Lake, Washington. I’ve been carving since 2004. I’ve been an artist, as far back as I can remember. Throughout the years I’ve worked in many mediums such as drawing, clay sculpture, digital design, glass blowing and now chainsaw art.

The carving became a dream of mine when my grandmother would buy the cute bears at the local fair. At age thirteen I thought it was something I could do, so I saved his money from working in a lawnmower repair shop and purchased a small saw. But my dreams were soon cut short when two weeks later my new saw was stolen from our garage, being only thirteen I pretty much wrote off trying to become a carver.

Eleven years later my grandmother read an article in the paper about a carver. She reminded me of my dream so long ago. She offered to buy me a saw, and from then on I was hooked. A few years into carving, I decided to try competition. I entered the Reedsport divisional in Oregon taking 2nd place in the semi-pro.

I returned the next year and entered as pro and took 8th place among thirty of the best carvers in the world. I’ve been in many articles including one on the front page of the News tribune in Washington showing me standing next to a ten ft. fisherman that I sculpted for the city of Bonney Lake. I have also spent the last three summers sculpting sixteen trees over twelve feet tall for the city of Bridgeport in eastern Washington, with another ten slated to be done in the coming years.

I now carve at home full time, and am always taking custom orders. Like I always say, ” I love to make people smile with my art.”
